Retro Cupertino Negra Amaro 2017

From the historic town of Copertino in Puglia’s Salento, Retrò Copertino Riserva is a classic expression of Negroamaro, one of southern Italy’s signature grapes. The wine comes from Cantina Sociale Cooperativa del Copertino, a cooperative founded in 1935 by 36 local growers and today representing more than 300 winegrowers throughout the area. Made from grapes grown primarily on older vines, this 2017 Riserva captures the warmth and rustic character of Puglia while offering plenty of freshness and balance. Aromas of blackberry, plum, ripe dark fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and leather lead into a rich, generous palate with flavors of blackcurrant, dried cherry, almond, tobacco, and warm spice. Soft tannins and a savory finish make it wonderfully easy to enjoy with food. Pair it with pizza, burgers, sausage and meat pasta, grilled meats, hearty red-sauce dishes, or aged cheeses. A terrific example of traditional southern Italian wine—rich, earthy, generous, and built for the table.
